I have been teaching how to incorporate mindfulness skills into every aspect of daily life for many years. The benefits of practicing mindfulness are compelling. Meditation is a type of mindfulness skill and research shows it can change the brain in significantly positive ways.
By practicing meditation we can calm our brain and our body, increase clarity and increase compassion, reduce anxiety and depression, improve health and so much more. But how do these benefits translate into our daily life and business success?
An article posted on Huffpost.com from Reuter, Money Managers Find Benefits From Meditation discusses how money managers are using meditation to increase their success and income. “Meditation more than anything in my life was the biggest ingredient for whatever success I’ve had,” says Ray Dalio, the founder of a $130 billion hedge fund firm Bridgewater Associates and one of the biggest names in money management.
Meditation can contribute to better decision making and foster business success in a number of ways. It can increase clarity and reduce bias. It helps calm anxiety and helps you be more present throughout stressful times. It decreases the probability that you will make emotional versus rational decisions. It can help you deal with information overload, help you remain calm and increase your ability to recognize the most important and relevant information from among the often overwhelming onslaught of facts and data.
Meditation can increase your compassion for yourself and others which will positively impact your business decisions and your relationships with others. This may make your more likely to collaborate and cooperate with competitors and create much bigger success than if you tried to dominate and annihilate them. And you will feel better about yourself in the process.
Meditation can also foster creativity which is so important in building any type of business. You can imagine not only what you want to create, but also imagine how you will feel when you have created it, all ahead of actually creating it. This is a powerful process that aids in obtaining the outcomes and success that you desire. If you can imagine it, you can create it.
How can you reap the benefits of mindfulness for yourself? Start by learning some basic skills of mindfulness such as the relaxation breath. Then practice noticing when you mind has wandered and bring your attention back to what you have chosen to pay attention to, over and over. Listen to some guided meditations to help you practice and improve your ability to calm your busy mind and stay present. Incorporate mindfulness and meditation into your everyday life. Learn to be mindful no matter what you are doing whether it be brushing your teeth or visioning the next step in your business. This teletraining will teach you how: https://thebrainlady.com/mindfulness/
Then set aside time every day to go to a quiet place with no distractions and start practicing a brief meditation. Start with a goal of sitting quietly paying attention to your breath for about 5 minutes. Every time your mind wanders just bring it back to focus on your breath. Gradually increase the time by about 5 minutes at a time until you can do this for 30 minutes or so. You may find it easier to listen to a guided meditation. Don’t beat yourself up if your mind continues to wander. With 60,000 thoughts per day, it is normal for you to wander. With practice it will get easier and quicker to refocus them.
After you start this practice start noticing what is showing up in your life and business. Look for any changes in your anxiety, mood, mental clarity, patience. See what creative ideas you may be generating. Notice how your decision making process may be working better. Do you feel more grounded and balanced? More rational, less emotional? Are you coming from a place of compassion, understanding, or helpfulness?
Pay attention to what you want to create during your meditations. Imagine how you will feel when it arrives. Practice actually feeling as if it has already been created. Then watch for it to show up.
If you want to increase your income incorporate meditation into your life and imagine how you will feel when you income increases as if it already has. Quantum physics shows us that this really works!
I would love to hear your personal experiences with this topic.
